Northern California 2017, a group of friends came together from three different worlds: premium technical alpine outerwear design, Southern California streetwear culture, and Japanese material science. We started with a single goal: to change outerwear by solving the industry's biggest problem, staying functionally dry in all-day rain.
Three years of design and engineering produced the Reservoir Rain Shell Jacket, the highest-performing rainwear ever created for life on the water. The first drop of the Reservoir released in January 2020, and it marked the beginning of The Art of Rain: rainwear created and curated by designers and artists who bring a creative eye to the outdoors, with one focus, keeping you dry through an all-day rain.
The ethos of bakkunbasu was, and is, to keep you dry, warm, and comfortable in the harshest conditions. The proof is in who wears it: starting with the outdoors culture in the Pacific Northwest, the Hawaiian Water Patrol, and multiple professional anglers who make their living in the weather most people wait out.
We believe the outdoors can and should be enjoyed no matter the forecast. The ability to weather the weather is what bakkunbasu is created for.
